Target Audience

The genre of the song I have chosen to make my music video is neo-glam rock, therefore the target audience will be people who listen to this type of music. They are likely to be middle class males aged between 15-18, as a lot of this music and their music videos are highly provocative and therefore unsuitable for a younger audience, while an older audience might find it vulgar and inappropriate. They will be either in Secondary School or College/Sixth Form, with an interest in art and literature. They will most likely be located in Brighton, London and Manchester, as these are cities that have gay pride parades annually. 2.2% of gay people in the UK live in London, 1.5% in Brighton and another 1.5% in or around Manchester. They could be young gay individuals who are having trouble coming to terms with who they are, and so will find a source of comfort in seeing Anderson promoting the lifestyle they might want to be a part of.

There could be a secondary target audience of middle class males between the ages of 18-21, who go to University probably in Brighton, London or Manchester, studying artistic subjects with an interest in clubbing, fashion and art. They will be either gay or gay friendly and will find Anderson appealing because he too is gay friendly. The Office For National Statistics revealed in 2010 that 1.5% of the British population is gay, with 16.9% of 16-24 year old's being gay.

Both target audiences will be almost 100% white, because as the photo from a Scissor Sisters concert shows, glam rock music is most listened to by white people. Also, The Office For National Statistics showed that 93.5% of gay people are white, so clearly white homosexuals will be a large part of the audience.

As teenagers and young adults are the target audience for my music video, it will be important to advertise the video and song in media sources that they are most likely to consume, such as articles in music magazines such as Kerrang, NME and Q, as well as their own music channels, along with others such as Scuzz and MTV Rock.

Another magazine Anderson would feature heavily in is Attitude, Europe's number 1 selling gay magazine. This will be the best way to reach the gay audience, as a lot of them are likely to see his features.
